What a serious mutt of a logo…
-What does a Raptor have to do with Toronto? Was this done at the height of Jurassic Park? Not too mention that a Raptor is extinct (bad metaphor).
-A dinosaur dribbling a ball…dumb.
-The dinosaur is looking backwards, which symbolically is a gap. It should be looking forward.
-The TORONTO spelled out across the triangles/arrows at the top, throws the balance of the logo off and is just plain ugly. Arrows mean direction, usually you would use one to point up (faith), or forward…not pointing in every direction, which means chaos or lost.
-The colours do not relate to Toronto in any way.
-Way to comical, and not to be taken serious. I guess the lesson from Disney is that these animated style characters mean better sales at the Fan Shops, but they are so gay!
-The secondary logo (on the jersy) is lousy too. A b-ball with the talons of the raptors claw, it made to look like a footprint. Another poor reference, footprints are what archeologists love, not sports fans. This reference places the logo as something from the past, not the present.
If this is the type of detail and care that this organization puts into its products, no wonder Toronto cannot get a winning team (in any sport!).
you are right the raptor is a result of an open poll by the public to choose the name for the team which was at the peak of the Jurassic Park craze.
Of interest is that this logo was not designed specifically for the Raptors. There were a number of “pre-packaged” identities developed by the NBA in the early ’90s for future expansion/relocated teams. This was one of them – early versions of it with “New Jersey” and “New Orleans” show up on the web from time to time – the only appreciable difference being the number of “points” at the top for the city name.
Stumack, do you by any chance know where I might be able to see these early Raptors logos you talk about for New Jersey and New Orleans? Are there other pre-packaged identities that were never utilized?
[…] they may not have hit a home run with the Raptors identity, but MLSE, with the help of TAXI 2, has done a pretty good job with the Toronto Football Club […]
I Agree the Toronto FC got it right. Especially with their colours. The Best thing about the Raptors identity is the St. Patricks Week Uniforms. The rest of the Graphic Design, the Raptor, The Claw, the Teeth, the Scratch is GARBAGE.
AWESOME I don’t know what you guys are talking about
