Recent recipient of one of the OAA’s Design Excellence awards for 2017, this 8’x8′ public structure designed by Atelier Kastelic Buffey, acts as an informal library. During the day two of the walls pivot open (meant to evoke the covers of a book) and passersby can take or leave a book, or just relax inside. At night, when the structure is locked, it’s illuminated by LED’s powered by a concealed solar panel on the roof, transforming into a lantern for the square.
