Laurentian Blue Volcano Vase

laurentian.jpg

A contemporary of the Fat Lava styles coming out of Germany in the seventies, currently enjoying a revival, Laurentian explored similar experiments in glaze techniques. This vase is almost gross, the dark brown glaze is chunky and appears thrown onto the blue surface, but it is exactly this roughness that gives the piece a ‘less precious”, not afraid to chip or use, charm and character. The form is classic and formal, it is easy to live with and does not need to be anything other than a vase.
