Beauceware Marlin Vase


Here is another oddball from this ranging and prolific Quebec ceramics company. This piece makes me wonder about the style of its time, and the need to reflect the ocean (or it’s occupants), in a way that is so kitsch and awkward seeming when run through our contemporary lens. Pretty homely, but a complete time capsule and a little bit of a mystery. What were our grandparents thinking, and what need did this form fill?
