Shinny Table

Please don’t get the wrong idea… we don’t post every design that incorporates hockey sticks into furniture – there’s definitely more to Canadian design – but this one does deserve a mention. Shinny table is made from reclaimed carbon composite sticks (returned to the manufacturer under warranty) supporting a recovered piece of arena glass. When you consider the level of engineering and energy that goes into these high performance products it seems horribly wasteful not to reuse them in some way. In this case, the sticks form a tensegrity structure, which seems in keeping with the high-tech material and abstracts the forms just enough to avoid kitsch while maintaining the inherent narrative of the materials.
