Lounge Chair

Designer: James Donahue
Manufacturer: self production, Winnipeg MB
Date: Early 1950’s

This chair had humble roots but has grown into a true Canadian icon. Manufactured in very small numbers in Donahue’s home with help from his University of Manitoba architecture students, this chair has become one of the few design objects in Canada to command serious value on the vintage and antique markets. A contemporary of Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson this piece was stylistically close to the furniture of the era and predates George Nelson’s Coconut chair (which it is commonly linked to).
