These MDF and steel stacking tables seem to me to be a very Canadian design product. Like Jacques Guillon’s strung chair, they demonstrate an inventiveness in sourcing, an efficient use of materials and a modesty of intention. All of these make for a product that is functional and playful in an understated way.

Velo Hubel was head of the Industrial Design Program at the Ontario College of Art and influenced an entire generation of designers in Canada. For this reason alone, his work should be included in all Canadian design collections.
