BlackBerry Motion Smartphone

Once the smartphone of choice for high-powered business leaders, the company faded into obscurity as pressure from others mounted. But thanks to a licensing agreement with a new hardware partner, rumors of the brand’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Making its debut at this week’s GITEX technology trade show in Dubai, the new Blackberry Motion is not only a Blackberry phone that actually exists but an all-touchscreen model that bears a striking similarity to some of the more popular handsets on the market. The hardware was developed by TCL, a Chinese electronics company known for producing TVs and phones. Since pivoting away from hardware earlier this decade, Blackberry will focus on providing the software.

The KeyOne (featuring, naturally, a keyboard) was the first recent collaboration between the two companies. But with its 5.5-inch LCD touchscreen, a massive 4000mAH QuickCharge 3.0-compatible battery, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, the Motion looks to be the first to look as though it can genuinely compete with other smartphones.
