The model 5 is one of the most sought after catalin radios. It’s design is spectacular and most often the swirling is quite dramatic. The top of this cabinet and the bottom “bumper” are very detailed. The five vertical bars and pinwheel knobs are a nice contrast.
This was also available in red with yellow swirls and alabaster (which patina’d to yellow due to exposure to UV rays). There was also a wood version…
…catalin shrinks over the years. The metal parts and glass dials do not shrink resulting in cracked catalin and cracked glass. My model 5 has suffered a cracked dial glass, perhaps due to shrinkage or by being dropped on the work bench during a re-cap.

I have this model radio in wood. My father purchased it just after WW2. It is in great working condition, however was re-sanded & stained 25 yrs ago. Best sound in a radio I have ever heard. I still enjoy it to this day.
