5¢ St. Lawrence Seaway Stamp (Inverted misprint)

Inverted Seaway $25,000

An extremely rare misprint featuring an inverted image commemorating the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Described by Charles Verge, president of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, as “the most spectacular stamp error in Canadian philately”. First noticed in August 1959 after the stamp went on sale by the millions across Canada. After a recall, only 250 misprinted specimens escaped the federal shredder, but dozens of those were acquired by the quick-thinking Winnipeg stamp dealer Kasimir Bileski, who bought a large lot and cornered the market in Seaway misprints.
