“At Mount Zoomer” Album Art

Whether as a video director or an illustrator, Matt Moroz’s work seems to divide opinion (not necessarily a bad thing in my books) and this album cover, a collaboration with artist Elizabeth Huey is no exception. The extensive graphics (which also include a pull-out poster depicting a battle between the two collaborators) were the subject of much anticipation and an exclusive sneak preview in Anthem Magazine celebrated the project. But recently, the work had the dubious distinction of inclusion on Pitchfork’s 20 Worst Album Covers of 2008. Whatever you think of the work (or Pitchfork for that matter), it’s unfortunate that a website regularly championing noisy musical experimentation, dismisses this kind of design experimentation off-hand. It takes guts to mess with ‘good taste’ in design.
