This is an interesting mark for a university. The icon attached to the logotype is incredibly modern, conceptual and works well as a form. The type obviously contrasts the icon, which I feel works. I looked at the website however and it does not do the logo any justice what so ever. It needs a major redesign. The website should complement the logo and be a system together. As of now the modern logotype and the 90’s website are not workking well together and look very disconnected.
Does anyone know which firm designed the logo? I presume a firm in Montreal….
Design Studio: Graphème Montréal (now Identica), design division of Cossette
Designer: Sylvain Grand’Maison
The icon exists since the 40’s but the previous version had many flaws and had to be put into a square in order to have a decent impact. It’s been redesigned from the ground and type have been added to create a whole.
If you look closely, many optical compensations have been made to the symbol and the curves have been treated like typography. The Charlotte Font have also been tweaked and kerned properly to make it fit with the symbol, while keeping the nice contrast between the modern icon and the serif type.
And yes, the website needs a major redesign.
