As a book cover designer based in Canada, I can’t tell you how many times I have been faced with cover projects dealing with Canada as the subject. The obvious choice is to use red and the famous maple leaf from the flag. This book deals with multicultural nationalism in Canada. Showing leaves from different species of trees on the same branch conveyed this in an unusual way.

This is wonderful and a really great concept. The US is often referred to as “the melting pot.” But Canada has been said to be more of a “mixed salad.” The ideation of multiple leaves from different types of trees on one branch is a lovely metaphor and comes across nicely. I’m curious to discuss more about the blue overtone and if its relevant conceptually or if it was done for aesthetic purposes. Regardless, I think I would have liked to see it in colour. Any thoughts?
