Sisu Vitamins Packaging

Lately I have noticed that a lot of Canadian design projects seem to appear foreign. Maybe this tactic has always been there, but the act of labeling projects with names like HutJ, or Source UK, or SISU, creates the impression of coming from nowhere or from some imaginary place.

I am not sure naming a project with these ’round (as in “not from ’round here”) names helps to sell them or not, but I have been using these vitamins for awhile, and only this morning did I realize that they were Canadian (I had originally bought them because I loved the packaging and graphic design). The name Sisu had completely thrown me (I had assumed they were from Sweden).

I do not think that they should be called Canoe, or Beaver but when more people are “buying local”, it may not be bad idea to name Canadian products “locally”.
