The Canadian Press Logo

The Canadian Press is a not-for-profit national news cooperative. Founded in 1917, The Canadian Press delivers content (press releases and images) to more than 600 newspapers, magazines and TV stations and is Canada’s leading provider of online news and images. However, a 2007 survey of Canadians showed that The Canadian Press lacked the name recognition of its US counterpart, the Associated Press. In response, the company launched an unprecedented rebranding/advertising campaign designed by Rethink Communications of Vancouver.

The rebranding effort included this redesign of The Canadian Press logo. The new design replaces the old blue and white CP logo with something more ‘patriotic’; the colour scheme and stylized quotation marks are a direct play on the Canada Wordmark. The design won the 2007 “Lotus” award for best logomark design.
