Original U of A Logo

I found this logo in a book recently: apparently it was created for the Faculty of Arts at U of A, but I’m not sure of the date. It seems to be out of use now… at least the U of A alums I talked to had never seen it.

The design is definitely a departure from the coat of arms style logos that we’re accustomed to seeing from universities, which may be why it’s no longer in use. A coat of arms does instill a certain degree of credibility that’s hard to match.
