Officially known as Le Club de Hockey Canadien (hence the C and the H), the Montreal Canadiens are the oldest team in the NHL. Their logo is a Canadian icon and has changed little since 1917.

This is the most beautiful, breath-taking logo that still brings a tear to my eye.
It is in my opinion the most recognized hockey logo of all time. I have grown up cheering the Habs and I now have my son doing the same, it doesn’t fare to well with my husband who happens to be a Leafs fan. We definately enjoy hockey in our house. FYI my grandparents who celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in February are also hockey fans. My grandmother is a die-hard Habs fans and my grandfather is a die-hard Leafs fan. And yes, they have all of their faculties and continue to watch hockey every year in their own home.
It’s a sideways toilet seat.
No, it’s a C & and H, which stand for “Centre h’Ice”.
Go Leafs!
was the shape inspired by a horse shoe?
I downloaded this to put on my messenger to annoy my friends who are Leafs fans (why they are my friends, I’m not quite sure, LOL) GO HABS!!!!
i love the hubs rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Habs rock!!! The H stands for Habitants hence the words Habs. Not for hockey.
Big game tonight!!! Go Habs Go!!! Leafs suck!!!!
hey leaf fans,It wasn’t that long ago that all you good fans wore bags on your heads. get your bags out.
GO HABS GO
H stands for Habs, not for Hockey.
lets go canadien lets go
I know that you hard-core fans HATE to be proven wrong, but this is a pretty old debate. The H stands for hockey… but, don’t take my word for it… please see the a few of the references below.
“One of sports’ oldest and recognizable logos, the classic ‘C’ and ‘H’ of the Montreal Canadiens was first used together in the 1917/18 season, before evolving to its current form in 1952/53. A common misconception is that the ‘H’ stands for ‘Habs’, but in fact, it stands for ‘Hockey’, as in ‘Club de Hockey Canadien’, the official name of the team. The original name of the team was ‘Club Athletique Canadien’, which is why their logo had an ‘A’ in place of an ‘H’ from.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Canadiens

I am a mixed bag: I like the Canadiens and Leafs both. When they play, 7 more times this season, I just sit back and watch the slug fest.
It is impossible to like both … either you love hockey, or you love the Leafs …
I am a Red Wings fan, personally, but my Canadian husband Andre Boudrias, (named after the famous Andre Boudrias) knows the answer below, taken from the Wikipedia, is correct.
One of sports’ oldest and most recognizable logos, the classic ‘C’ and ‘H’ of the Montreal Canadiens was first used together in the 1917-18 season before evolving to its current form in 1952-53. The ‘H’ does not stand for ‘Habs’ or Habitants, as this is a misconception stemming from an error by an English language newspaper reporter in the 1950s. It actually stands for ‘Hockey’, as in ‘Club de Hockey Canadien’, the official name of the team. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as “the Habs” was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the “H” on the Canadiens’ sweaters was for “Habitants.”[16].
The first logo was Simply a large C on a white stripe in 1909-10.
In 1910-11 the logo was changed to a large green maple leaf with a white ‘C’ in ‘Old English’ script as all of the NHA O’Brien franchises had similar logos. As the team ownership changed, the logo evolved into today’s famous logo.
After being bought in 1911 by George Kennedy, the logo was changed to a white maple leaf with the letters CAC over it, standing for Club Athletique Canadien. This was later changed to a large C, with an A inside.
After being bought by original Canadien player Leo Dandurant, the team regained their original name, Club de Hockey Canadien, and the H replaced the A. Thus the CH, standing for Club de Hockey Canadien (or CHC) logo was born.
