Virtual Museum of Canada

The Department of Heritage along with the Canadian Heritage Information Network has partnered with the museum community to bring us this wonderfully robust resource of our nation’s museums. As with all forms of new media and technology it appears to still be a work in progress but a quick tour around the site shows a huge range and depth of information, artwork and interactivity. From a Google Street View-like walking tour inside galleries across the country to the NACmusicbox TIMELINE which “is an online music collection featuring over 200 high-quality online audio recordings of NAC Orchestra performances from the National Art Centre’s 41-year history”. Broken down by date, users can browse and identify the era of a particular composer and listen to music – all in the context of history.
