The Cup Lamp by Paul Loebach with USB port

“Umbra Shift was created as a platform for the Umbra Studio to experiment with new ideas and foster exchange with leading members of the design community, including Paul Loebach, Philippe Malouin, Harry Allen, Lukas Peet, MSDS, Fugitive Glue, Hlynur Atlason, and Albert Lee.” It is unclear on what ‘shift’ this is about, other than Umbra searching for some design cred. The collection does not appear to have a a curatorial vision, or mission, but the move is significant. Umbra is invisible in the vogue  and cultish design world, competing for mind share that is hogged by Alessi, Muji, and others. If this platform is real, and given attention, Umbra could become a legitimate stage and conduit for emerging design to hit the mainstream, and that would be amazing.
