Covering a small window in the master bedroom of my family’s cottage, this curtain was a carry-over from the previous owners. It was hemmed by hand, so it was either altered to fit or was entirely homemade. I have no idea how old it is, whether it was mass-produced or not, but the rustic texture of the fabric and the simple yet beautiful images are quintessentially Canadian. An example of cottage kitsch; an object in one’s peripheral vision for years before realizing how striking it actually is.
