Your Own Piece of the Gardiner

The Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway follows the shore of Lake Ontario, connecting Toronto with its western suburbs. This close proximity to the lake provides motorists entering the city with beautiful skyline views. Unfortunately, the Gardiner also cuts off much of Toronto from its own waterfront.

Despite pleas from Jane Jacobs and many others over the years to dismantle, relocate or even bury the expressway (“Big Dig” style), the Gardiner still stands – a crumbling monument to a time when the automobile was looked on with great optimism and a six-lane highway was considered a beautiful addition to any lakeshore. Before those days fade completely from memory, you can still have “Your Own Piece of the Gardiner”. A necklace made from genuine pieces of the Gardiner Expressway.
